Wizards are friendly NPCs. Some appear in towns as wizards and magic vendors; others appear randomly in museums and shops. The non-vendor ones which appear in town (usually in the same place as trainers and informers) will charge gold to identify items for you.

One also acts as the spell writer in the Mages' Guild in Lumiest. The spell writer is an employee at the mage's guild. At the spell writer, you reserve spellbooks, which you can buy later when the stock has been updated, though at 1.5 times the normal price. The spellbook level available for reservation appears to be dependent on the shop rank i.e., amount of money invested.

Elona+[]

In Elona+, versions 1.59 and later, the town wizards who identify items, also let you "Attend a magic practice". This will train the spells you currently know without consuming any Spell Stock, but still lowering their potential when the spell levels up. It costs at least 2 platinum, which increase as the sum of the levels of spells in the practiced category increases (though the exact formula is unknown). There are six different categories of magic to train, which exercise different spells:

  1. Sorcier (sic): Single target (dart/arrow/eye) and bolt type offensive spells.
  2. Warlock: Area offensive spells. (ball type spells, Meteor)
  3. Enchanter: Buff and hex spells (Including Incognito)
  4. Healer: Heal spells. (Healing, debuff removal, curse removal, sense object, restore body/spirit, and resurrection)
  5. Shaman: Miscellaneous spells. (Oracle, dominate, summoning spells, mist of X spells, acid ground, and fire wall)
  6. Mage: Map related spells (teleport, wall/door creation, magic map), dimensional related spells (return and 4-Dimensional pocket), and Gravity.

The following spells are not trained by any magic practice categories: Wish, Wizard's Harvest.
