<Whom dwell in the vanity> is an NPC located in the graveyard in northeast Vernis. You can talk to him, but he just tells you to leave him alone.
He has the artifact sword <Ragnarok>, which has the rare attribute 'it brings an end'. This effect can be triggered if he sees hostile NPCs or is attacked. It yells 'Let's Ragnarok!', starts Etherwind, sets off a huge explosion, and summons hordes of dragons, cyclopses, and titans. As such, it is suggested that players take care not to attack him or summon monsters nearby (which includes pets and NPCs drinking out of the nearby well), unless they don't mind dooming the town of Vernis.
A secondary, less potentially catastrophic angle of attack is to buy or obtain as many alcoholic beverages as you can, drop all other items, and read scrolls of curse and cursed scrolls of uncurse until all drinks are thoroughly doomed. The strategy is to throw them at him while teleporting around to avoid being hit and incurring Ragnarok (he'll seek you out from any point on the map once hostile), causing him to barf himself to death.
If killed in Vernis, he will no longer appear there, but will continue to appear at parties, where he can be killed for his sword, card, and figurine again. Any duplicates of the Ragnarok will turn into randomly generated <miracle> or {godly} artifact swords when you pick them up, so repeatedly killing him is a reliable way to hunt for good equipment.
He also has heterochromia of the eye, with his right eye being red and his left eye being blue. Although there is a portrait for <Whom dwell in the vanity> (male #6), the game uses another portrait.
