Varuna is a hostile NPC, the third-tier monster of the Asura race.

They're essentially the same as other lower-level Asura monsters, only with appropriate stat changes for their level and the chance of spawning with slightly better equipment of (Good) quality and decent materials.

As with other Asuras, they make for excellent Evasion and Greater Evasion trainers; just skip turns (by pressing either s or 5 in the numeric keypad) and let them attack you, the skill will train itself. Just make sure you have an exit to heal, sleep and eat safely.

They have a low (1/400) chance of dropping the Twin Edge upon death.

All their resistances are NPC level resistance bonuses and will be lost after recruitment.

Evolution[]

Varuna can be evolved into a Suiten with a <evolution heart>, gaining 20 strength, 10 dexterity, 10 speed, Silent Ocean special action and a new sprite.

The sprite number for varuna is 405, with a color modifier of 3.

Changes in Elona+[]

Varunas remain mostly unchanged in Elona+, only gaining the trained Firearm skill like many other NPCs. Another change was the addition of the Weight Lifting skill as a racial skill.

Trivia[]

Varna is a Sanskrit word which means type, order, or class. The term refers to social classes in Brahminical texts.
