Traveling is a Will based skill that increases the experience gained from traveling on the world map. The bonus is relatively small and the skill is slow to train. Increased experience is also of dubious worth since raw experience increases monster difficulty but does not increase attribute or skill levels. However, there are few other ways to raise Will.


Weather affects travel speed: Rain increases travel time by 30%, heavy rain by 60%, snow by 120%, and etherwind reduces this time by 50%.

Snow terrain doubles travel time, in addition to any stops made.

Each tile is approximately 4 miles.

Traveling in Elona+ (Pre 2.09 update)[]

Traveling has been significantly improved in Elona+. Monster difficulty is no longer tied to experience. It is now Speed based. The skill not only still gives extra experience for walking on the world map, it also trains a skill up to the next level randomly, which will show up as increased in the next town-like place the player enters, and some attribute experience as well: Once for every mile traveled, a skill you know is selected at random and trained by Traveling/4 + 3 points with a lower limit of 3 and an upper limit of 50. The same happens for each of your pets with traveling, but they will appear to gain much more because pets receive a 4 times multiplier on all experience gains. Additionally, pets that have both traveling and gathering skills (mining, fishing, gardening, gene engineering, and/or detection) have a (skill level+miles traveled)/1000 chance, capped at skill level 100, to gain 50 points(approximately 5 kills worth) of gathered materials. Because the skill is now speed based, it has a minor effect on training speed as well.

Traveling seems to have an effect on travel speed in the overworld, 100 Traveling skill can reduce about a half hour of travel time per tile on a freshly made character at the same speed.

The specific formula is: (TravelTime * 100) / (100 + TravelEnchantStrength/8 + TravelingSkill)

Also note from what I can tell speed has no noticeable effect on travel time despite what one may expect. This also appears to apply to things that effect speed like Overweight including if the cause is traveling with cargo.

Traveling in Elona+ as of 2.09+[]

As of 2.09 in Elona+, traveling has been changed. The formula is now (TRAVELLING * 1 / 4 + DISTANCE / 2 + RANDOM(DISTANCE / 2), 1, 2000. This means there's no longer an experience cap of 50 for each skill at Lv. 200 Traveling like before. Instead of skills being chosen at random now, every single skill gets experience equal to Traveling/4 + Travel Distance now. Which means you can continue to level traveling until you reach the cap of Lv. 2000 - which at that point every trip will give each skill 500 exp(give or take the skill's potential.)

Travelling experience is recieved upon entering a town after a total of more than 300 miles has been travelled since the last activation. Since the bonus from the travelling skill is now static, journeys longer than this will give comparatively less benefit.

Traveling in Omake Overhaul[]

Traveling decreases chance of encountering ambushes and rogue bosses. It is best to avoid learning this skill if you want to encounter rogue bosses. Even a small amount of traveling skill will cause you to need several times your maximum capacity in cargo to encounter them.

Escort quests not affected.
