Race adjusts a character's attributes and skills in combination with their class. Race may also grant a racial bonus, and determines what body slots are available for equipping weapons and armors.

Extended races[]
There are a number of NPC races which can be played by editing config.txt to have extraRace set to "1". Be warned that these classes aren't always friendly for new players. They are debug races, unsupported, unbalanced, and technically cheating. Many of these races do not have the standard amount of equipment slots and there is no way to gain more equipment slots without Cheating#modding or using wizard mode to get the mutant racial feat. For example dog has no weapons slots, so a dog character can never use weapons.

Elona+ races[]
In Elona+, some races have been changed:
- Bacteria
- Behicle (replaces Bike)
- Beast (replaces Cerberus)
- Bird (replaces Chicken)
- Doggod
- Karune (added in 1.155)
- Largeanimal (added in 1.30)
- Mazin
- Seamonster (added in 1.33)
- Worm (replaces Centipede)
- Zanan (added in 1.155)

Omake Overhaul[]
In Omake overhaul, there is a new playable Sister race, players and NPCs gain DV and PV bonuses when not wearing any armor (including shields), and custom races can be added to the game.
The "natural armor" PV and DV bonus scale with level, using the following formulas:
Bonus DV = Level / 2 + DV * DVmodifier / 100 + DVmodifier - 100
Bonus PV = Level + (PV + Level / 2 + PVmodifier / 25) * PVmodifier / 100
The DV/PV inside the formula refer to DV/PV from disease symptoms, mutations, feats, or weapons that grant DV/PV.
