Just north of the Chaos Shrine lies a large mountain, and to get there, one has to take this mountain pass. However, it cannot be entered until you've gone to the 30th floor in Rehmido and tried to defeat the final boss enemy there. While it can be killed, it will respawn infinitely, and you will have to go back up the stairs to the previous level to escape. After this, talk to Doctor <Gavela> in Melugas. After doing so, you can enter this area.
The function and layout of the South Tyrean Mountain Pass are identical to those of theMountain Pass leading to Larna in North Tyris, with the exception of the much higher level monsters and the ether corruption. The corruption acts like Ether Wind, but worse: every now and then your ether disease increases by 66, each increase accompanied by the message "ether corrupts your body". Vindale cloaks don't have any recognizable effect on this. It might be advisable to just teleport until you're close to the opposite stairs, rather than try to run. A stack of 'cure corruption' potions might also come in handy, especially since this accelerated corruption effect continues when you emerge on the other side of the pass, in the Ancient Garden.
