Materials are used for crafting (Alchemy, Tailoring, Jeweler, and Carpentry), casino minigames, and at treasure machines. They cannot be bought or sold, and have no weight. Materials can be found in many different ways, including through searching sampling spots, random events, material boxes. Worshipers of Mani of Machine also receive materials when disarming traps.

Materials owned can be viewed by pressing the m key. Crafting with materials requires a crafting tool.

When an ally is at least "friend" impress level and has the detection, gardening, fishing, or gene Engineer skills, then each time they kill an enemy, there's a chance that it will gain 1-10 charges of materials. Each material has a charge cost to it.

These materials can be retrieved by selecting "Receive Materials" when talking to the ally. If the pet has less than a full set worth of points, those points will be spent on materials in the set in the order listed below.

Materials can be harvested with harvest levels up to 50 higher than the current dungeon level, but materials with levels much higher than the dungeon level are much less common. The effect of rarity values on drop rates can be roughly treated as materials having a weight of 1/rarity.

Detection sampling spots in lakes, mines, and nests act as fishing, mining, and gene engineering sampling spots respectively, and detection spots in caves only produce materials from the "All" group.
