Luck is one of the most difficult attributes to increase, along with Mana. It is not displayed on the character information screen.
Characters have a starting Luck value of 50 and 100 potential. Like other attributes, Base Luck is capped at 2000. The effects of Luck are clamped in the range 1 to 9999.
What Luck Affects[]
- During item generation (specifically, randomly generated armor and weapons), if a random number from 0 to 4999 is less than the character's Luck and the equipment's quality is less than 5, it is upgraded one rank. Thus, Bad becomes Good, Good becomes Great, Great becomes <Miracle>, and <Miracle> becomes {Godly}. This roll is checked only once, does not effect anything but equipment, and does not influence the number, rank, or magnitude of enchantments.
- During blackjack, if a random number from 0 to the player characters Luck − 1 is greater than 40, a card that would bust when drawn instead displays "you have a bad feeling about this card".
- During some negative random events, if a random number from to the player character's luck value exceeds a particular threshold, that negative event is overridden with the Avoiding Misfortune event ("You sense a bad feeling for a moment but it fades away quickly.") The requisite thresholds are:
- Creepy dream: 120
- Cursed Whispering: 65
- Monster Dream: 70
- Malicious hand event (either the dream or the map event): 40
- Strange Feast event: 45
- Murderer event: 80
- Curse resistance is 75 + Luck.
Increasing Luck[]
There are a few ways to permanently increase Luck:
- Taking the three feats that increases Luck by 5, for a total of 15 Luck.
- Wishing for
SkillLuck
increases Luck by 1. - Eating a rabbit's tail adds 1 Luck.
- Eating a happy apple adds 20 Luck.
- Eating a kagami mochi adds 2 Luck
Luck can also be temporarily increased by:
- Worshiping Ehekatl of Luck increases Luck by Favor / 100, from a minimum 1 to a maximum of 75 + Faith / 10.
- Lucky Day dream during Sleep gives a Lucky Day buff which grants +777 Luck for 1500 turns.
- Eating blessed food may give a Lucky Day buff which grants +100 Luck for 777 turns.
- Using a Statue of Ehekatl gives a Lucky Day buff which grants +77 Luck for 2500 turns.
- Wearing Mica equipment buffs Luck by +3.
Elona+[]
Elona+ adds both new uses for Luck and new ways to increase it.
Additional Uses[]
- During combat hit calculation, a random number from 0 to 299 is generated and compared to
rnd((√(Min(Max(Luck, 1), 2000) + 1)) + 1)
. If the latter number is greater, the attack hits. This check happens immediately after the 1/20 chance of an auto miss, but before Evasion is processed. - During the Handmade Gift event (upon PC wakeup with a pet who has at least one of Tailoring or Carpentry), if PC Luck + Pet Impress * 2 is greater than a random number from 0 to 9999, the crafted item is increased one quality level to {Godly}.
- During the Rich man event, the amount of gold received is increased by Luck * 20.
Increasing Luck[]
- In Elona+, eating equipment that gives bonuses to Luck trains Luck.
- Completing the Lost Kitty quest trains Luck and Luck potential. This quest is repeatable.
- Eating Four-leaf clovers trains Luck, and increases its potential a little bit.
- Using a christmas set trains luck by 1000 points.
- From version 1.92 on, the special action Destiny dice exists and trains Luck. (Leaving here until a proper page shows up: Around 20-25 uses should have it increase a level if your potential is maxed. Spamming it without sleeping had it take well over 150 uses to increase once more after a few increases. Spamming sets of 20 whenever I remember and between sleeps has it increase in about 60-100 uses).
