The Juere are a people wild and free. Scorning the "weaker" laws of others, they quickly learn the tricks and technologies of others before ever moving onwards. Their pride makes them great performers, and are used to being hungry for long periods of time. Nimble of hand, and Bold of character, no two Juere are ever the same.

The Juere is a playable character race.

Jueres are a balanced race. Players looking for a more dedicated warrior should consider Dwarf and Goblin. For dedicated spellcasters, see Eulderna, Elea and Lich. For a high-Charisma (and specialized) alternative, see Fairy. See also Yerles for another balanced background with different perks.

Strategies[]

Juere start with balanced attributes, leaning towards Dexterity and Charisma. They're one of the few races to start with Negotiation (the other is Yerles), and the only one to start with Lock Picking (an essential skill to have) and Performer. Their racial feats allow them to gather more materials from searching material spots, and get hungry at a slower rate than other characters.

While Juere easily lend themselves to any class combination, they're one of the best choices for a Pianist. High starting Charisma plus trained Performer on both their race and class means they start skilled enough to avoid death by stoning for the most part (do avoid Loyter and other high-level NPCs just in case). Their exceptional Charisma is also useful to quickly gather allies from the get-go, but unlike the similarly charismatic Fairies, Juere have no problem joining the fray once combat starts.

Aside form Pianist, their excellent Dexterity and Perception make the Juere very good at ranged combat as well, and their material-gathering feat makes them excellent craftsmen despite the lack of starting crafting skills (which can be rectified in class selection). They're not too shabby at melee either, especially with Dexterity-based skills like Short Sword and Dual Wield. As for spellcasting, they make passable mages but the lack of any spellcasting-related skills and overall "decent but not good" magic-related stats means players are better off picking other races if they actually want to play a mage.

The Juere's combination of stats, skills and feats make them possible *the* best race for beginner players to learn the game, as they make the experience of dungeon delving and exploring a lot more forgiving. That said, their "slow digestion" feat will be a huge hindrance to more experienced players, since food is one of the best ways to train stats, and the player won't be able to eat until they're hungry but artificially inducing hunger via vomiting too often will eventually cause Anorexia (preventing eating at all).

Recommended Classes[]

As mentioned the Juere are good at most classes and builds, with the exception of dedicated spellcasting. But to give some recommendations to start...

Thief
Thief is a very class that also improves on the Juere's preexisting strengths. They get an extra bump in Negotiation, plus trained Long Sword, Short Sword, Bow, Tactics (goes well with Throwing), Medium Armor, Dual Wield, Evasion and Magic Device to make them an all-rounded combatant in either melee or ranged, with auxiliary rods as well. They also start with Pickpocket (otherwise only learned from the Thieves' Guild Trainer), excellent to start nicking gear and items from other NPCs. If they player is interested in trying out two-weapon combat, a Juere Thief is one of the best ways to go about it.
Pianist
As mentioned the Juere are one of the best picks for a Pianist. They don't suffer the lack of combat skills as badly as the Elea or Fairies, their racial skills stack with this class' trained Performer, and trained Jeweler goes well with the material-gatheting feat to get a start on scroll-crafting. On top of that, Weight Lifting is an essential skill for any character to have, trained Riding (for extra Speed and a meat shield) and Magic Device (for rod casting) give extra survivability. Trained Literacy and Memorization give an entry into spellcasting if the player wishes to pursue it.
Archer
Suiting the Juere's versatility, this class comes with trained Marksman, Bow and Crossbow to give it the ranged expertise you'd expect from the class name, but also Medium Armor, Axe and Short Sword for melee, Evasion and Riding for defense, Magical Device for auxiliaries, Tailoring for crafting, and Anatomy for corpse and monster parts gathering (which can be later sold or offered to gods for favor).

Racial Feats[]

Your digestion is slow
This means that you won't be starving very easily as you stay satisfied for days after one meal. Though food isn't hard to come by for the most part, this feat can be useful if you're short on food supplies and halfway through a dungeon.
You can gather more materials.
This is exactly what it says on the tin. Jueres are great when it comes to extracting materials, pulling up anywhere from 4~7 units of anything by the time the spot is dry.
