Racial Feats

You take less damage from the mana reaction.
Your body slows the Ether Disease progress.

Elea, known by the other peoples of the world as "Elf's", live quietly in their forests, far from man. Nimble and graceful, their bows are of legend, and their wizards have forgotten more magic than many will ever know. Still, the young ones from time to time leave and go on adventures, if only to fill their memories for their long lives.

The Elea is a playable character race.

Mysterious people from the Vindale Forest. Besides their natural gift for magic, agility and sharp eyes, the Elea are known (and resented) for their natural resistance to Ether and mana reaction.

Eleas lean more towards magic, but are still balanced enough for any class. Players who'd rather play more specialized mages should consider the Lich and Fairy races. For other balanced races see Yerles, Juere, Eulderna, and Dwarf.

Strategies[]

The Elea start with balanced attributes, leaning towards Magic, Willpower and Charisma. They're the only playable race to start with trained levels in Magic Capacity and Memorization, plus slightly higher Mana at the cost of slightly lower Life, pushing them towards spellcasting. Added to this is their racial feats, one which reduces the progression of Ether Disease, and the other halves mana reaction damage.

The most desirable traits of this background are their feats, which offer permanent unique perks, and actually stack with equivalent effects (Vindale cloaks and Magic Capacity, respectively) instead of overriding them.

Eleas have the ideal skills, Mana, and feats for a pure spellcaster build. Their mana reaction feat stacked with Magic Capacity allows them to overcast twice as much as any other playable character before it becomes fatal. Depending on the class, they may lack other essential mage skills like Literacy, Meditation, and Control Magic, which is not much of a problem as the first two can be gained from trainers in towns, and the latter from the Mages' Guild.

While Eleas' advantages are best suited towards spellcasting builds they're balanced enough to do well in other classes. They have good stats and potentials for evasion and ranged combat, passable (but not great) ones for melee combat, and their magic aptitudes guarantee spell options for any class they choose. Their excellent Charisma makes it easier to recruit more allies for dangerous battles.

They are the only characters who can safely (kinda) wear Ether gear thanks to their racial feat, as there are no similar options to get protection from Ether material gear. While discouraged early, by the mid and late-game, where potions of cure corruption are more easy to get, Eleas can wield weapons such as the Wind Bow, Ether Dagger, and Rail Gun without much worry.

Recommended Classes[]

Wizard
As mentioned, the Elea's combination of stats, skills and feats make them one of the best choices for a pure spellcaster. While skills and stats can be eventually trained by any character, Mana is much more difficult to increase, and the Elea's halved mana reaction feat stacks with Magic Capacity to allow them to endure overcasting and Mana draining much better than other races. And once their spell and Mana reserves are empty, Eleas can still rely on their ranged and evasive capabilities.
Warmage, Priest, and Claymore
These options are for players who'd prefer a warrior-mage hybrid instead of a pure mage. For convenience, these classes all start with trained Literacy (the Claymore loses it in Elona+ however):
  • The Warmage gives an extra bump to casting stats and skills while also giving trained Magic Device, and while trained Heavy Armor and Medium Armor makes them hardier the player should be mindful of their penalties to casting chance.
  • The Priest has pretty much the same perks as the Warmage, with the addition of trained Shield (which gives more defense but also penalizes casting chance) and Faith (which is always great to have early to earn Favor faster.)
  • In contrast the Claymore gives trained Evasion, Greater Evasion and Tactics to facilitate physical combat, and unlike other armor and weapon options Two Hand and Light Armor give no penalties to casting chance.
Pianist
For a more supportive build, the Elea's Charisma allows them to quickly pick up allies and fall back on Performer to earn money and platinum via Party Time! quests. The Pianist also starts with great utility skills such as Weight Lifting (to help with burdening), Jeweler (for scroll-crafting), and Riding (for extra Speed and a meat shield). Starting with trained Literacy, Magic Device and Light Armor makes it much easier to branch into spellcasting as well.

Racial Feats[]

You take less damage from the mana reaction.
50% damage reduction from mana reaction and overcasting.
Your body slows the Ether Disease progress.
Slower progression of Ether Disease.

Elona+[]

Eleas now start with the Cooking skill.

Spellcasting went through a significant rework, making it much easier to play pure casters and hybrids now than in the original version:

  • Spellbooks cost half their previous value.
  • Spell Stock lasts three times as long.
  • The potential of spells memorized increases every time the PC sleeps.
  • If a spellbook reading failure summons monsters into a town, they'll disappear after a few days. The only exceptions are permanent maps such as Your Home, the Truce Ground and unique dungeons.
  • The Wizard shopkeeper now trains spell level in exchange for platinum coins.
  • Skill points can be used to train and increase potential of spells.
  • Casting spells on or near a sandbagged enemy no longer increases experience, spell levels, or trains stats (can be reinstated in Elona+ Custom.)

Recommended Classes[]

Wizard
Now comes with trained Jeweler to get a head-start on scroll crafting (including much-needed Scrolls of Mana). Their Class Feat Circulation Magic reduces MP consumption by 10%, better supporting a pure-caster playstyle.
Warmage, Priest, and Claymore
  • The Warmage remains mostly the same as before. Their Class Feat Unified Spirit increases casting chance by 5%, which mitigates the casting change penalty from heavier armor, shields and Dual Wielding, and can be a nice option even for pure casters.
  • The Priest now starts with trained Tactics and Cooking, facilitating melee and Throwing combat and food stocking. Their Class Feat Charity increases the effectiveness of healing spells by 25%.
  • The Claymore now loses Literacy in exchange for Alchemy, which isn't much of a loss since Literacy can be taught from Trainers in Palmia, Lumiest, Noyel, Melkawn, and Port Kurualm (plus skill training being much cheaper now). Their Class Feat Piercing Sword increases the chance of piercing attacks by 5% even if the player doesn't have piercing weapons.
Pianist
Now comes with trained Throwing, which facilitates ranged combat and throwing your piano (or any other objects) towards enemies. Their Class Feat Interference Music gives a 25% chance to nullify Sound damage, which can be great for the early game (especially when Sound Hounds start appearing) but loses its effectiveness once the player has the means to boost their Sound resistance.
Gunner
While this class offers no immediate benefits towards spellcasting, Eleas can easily become ranged-mage hybrids with trained Firearm, Marksman and Evasion, and utility skills like Negotiation, Lock Picking, Detection and Disarm Trap are great to have on any character. While this class does not start with Magic Device, trained Carpentry will help with keeping a steady supply of rods. Their Class Feat Barrage grants an innate 5% chance to do an extra ranged attack, and can stack with "extra ranged attacks" enchants from equip such as the Arbalest.

Trivia[]

  • Despite the marginalized condition of the Elea in-story, the PC will experience the same indifference from NPCs as any other playable race. Even the tutorial Eleas won't acknowledge an Elean PC.
