<Ebon> the fire giant is a unique NPC in Noyel who appears to the immediate left of <Moyer> the crooked. He can breathe fire, and (as a high-level Giant) has incredible strength and constitution. Fortunately, he starts out neutral to you and is kept locked down via a set of chains next to him (but can still attack hostile monsters when chained, contrary to Moyer's claims).
Attacking Ebon whilst he is chained will subtract 2 Karma every time a hit connects.
However, it is possible to free Ebon by Lock Picking (open) the chains. Once he is freed, Ebon will immediately attempt to kill everyone (usually Moyer dies first) while the entirety of the town along with respawning Palmian elite soldiers, will attempt to kill Ebon (including other adventurers that happen to be present). If you can evade the fires that are started when Ebon inevitably starts breathing fire (or if you can make it rain, thereby putting out any fires that may start), and also ensure that you would survive if Ebon breathes fire whilst you're in his line of sight, you can jump in and out of the chaos and grab anything that the fallen has dropped.
Pickpocketing is also an ideal activity to partake in whilst everyone is busy; anyone seeking a kitty bank can find one in the shop in the bottom left corner of town, although the amount it requires per deposit varies every time. (You can break it by Throwing it so that a new one with a different deposit requirement is generated next time you visit)
It is possible for Ebon to be whittled down by the townsfolk until he finally dies, if you help out a little, but it is extremely arduous and is not recommended unless you really want to complete your museum's rows of figures and cards. While his corpse may seem desirable, it provides no benefits when eaten. It is heavy, however, so makes a decent sacrifice at the nearby altar. (Tip: If you manage to open his chains while he is eating, every attack will interrupt his eating until the next round when he tries to eat again - it's an endless loop that will prevent him from ever attacking, and so he will eventually be killed by the townfolk without ever hurting anyone.)
There is a small medal under Ebon, which is nicknamed the dangerous medal. You can unshackle him or teleport him away using a rod of teleportation to get it. Also if you own a weapon that invokes Draw Shadow, you can move him - just note that this may end up costing you a lot of karma if it's not a very high rate of invocation.
A small warning (might be Elona+ only): If Ebon was freed and killed, the next time he respawns there is a good chance he will automatically be unchained and go berserk again. You can avoid it if you don't return again for a few weeks.
Elona+ changes[]
He gains the Firearm skill and his resistances except for fire were reduced.
