All unique NPCs are boss-type characters and have a number of properties that distinguish them from ordinary opponents.
- Unique characters cannot be dominated.
- Unique characters innately have "increased quality" (which otherwise must be purchased for 1000AP).
- Starting from version 2.02 they also have a special property to counter faster opponents.
- Damage received from an enemy that has a higher Speed attribute is reduced by a multiplier dependent on the difference in speed (at maximum reduction, damage is reduced to 1/5 of normal value.)
- Damage dealt to an enemy with a higher Speed is increased (up to a maximum of x5 damage).
- Non-pet unique NPCs cannot be calmed using the Incognito effect when provoked.
- Similar to characters with the Power Bash bit flag, non-pet unique NPCs are capable of breaking walls in an attempt to reach the enemy or, conversely, retreat.
- Non-pet unique NPCs have 6 times increased health (before version 2.11 the non-pet unique NPC modifier increased HP by 5 times instead of 6 times).
- Non-pet unique NPCs starting from version 2.11 have an additional 1.5 ranks of all resistances (including Magic Resistance).
- Non-pet unique NPCs have a 200% gauge bar instead of 100%.
- Non-pet unique NPCs starting from version 2.17 have “boss out-of-sight healing” (the amount HP/SP/MP they recover per turn depends on their Healing and Meditation skills).
- Non-pet unique NPCs always drop their figurine and card (which since version 1.74 increases the 'Unique Level' of your museum) and also corpse when they die.
