Fandom is ditching its own customized version of an old wikimedia release, going back to a more updated version with modifications instead. They do this in stages, in a long process that's been taking months. They're about to process our wiki now.
What does this mean for us?
Pretty much everything that relied on Fandom's old customized code will be gone or converted to run on the updated platform. For the Elona wiki, they will start with a forum conversion, and once they figured out how to port Achievements, they will migrate the entire wiki over. You can see a comprehensive breakdown of the changes on the developer's blog, but here is basic rundown.
Forums >> Discussions
Our forums will be closed down, and their content will be migrated to a different system they call "Discussions". Forum threads will become posts. Kudos will become upvotes. Forum boards will become categories, and forum topics will become tags.
Here is what an already processed Discussions looks like. There is another view mode in the works, where it will be possible to condense posts for a "more forum-like experience". The message wall and article comments will be similarly replaced by the same system. Wikitext functionality will be lost; existing wikitext will be displayed as HTML.
Wiki Activity >> Recent Changes
Wiki Activity will be gone, only Recent Changes will exist, in a slightly modified form.
Profile redesign
Profiles will get a more Facebook-like redesign, as explained in detail here.
Gamepedia merger
Gamepedia and Fandom will share the same userbase. If you have an account on both, and the username is the same, there might be a conflict. See these two articles about resolving that:
Mobile editor
A mobile-friendly editor is implemented on the new platform.
